Feldesman Attorney Quoted on Puerto Rico’s Gubernatorial Election
Feldesman Senior Counsel Phillip A. Escoriaza was quoted in the November 7, 2024, edition of The Bond Buyer following last week’s election of Puerto Rico’s new governor Jenniffer González Colón. A member of the New Progressive Party, González Colón will replace Pedro Pierluisi, a member of the same party, which advocates for Puerto Rican statehood. Unlike Pierluisi, González Colón will have a unified government with the New Progressive Party controlling the House of Representatives and the Senate alongside the executive branch.
Asked for his analysis, Mr. Escoriaza noted the party’s control of the legislative and executive chambers should enable the new governor to enact more policies. Additionally, he mentioned González Colón’s history as a long-standing member of the Republican Party and how that would raise questions about how effectively she could influence Trump administration policies aimed at the Island.
We appreciate the opportunity for Mr. Escoriaza to weigh in on these important electoral developments in Puerto Rico. The Bond Buyer is a national trade publication covering the municipal bond industry. Please click here to read the entire article.
