FTLF Attorneys to Present at SRAI Annual Meeting
FTLF attorneys Mindy B. Pava, Scott S. Sheffler, and Ted Waters will speak at the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI) Annual Meeting in Seattle from October 16 – 18, 2023. During their sessions at the conference, they will address federal grant developments as well as crucial considerations for research grantees to remain in compliance with new regulations.
The 2023 SRAI Annual Meeting will gather well-versed leaders in subject matters like government, health care organizations, and higher education institutions.
Monday, October 16
Ms. Pava will lead “Legal Update 2023: Key Research Grant Developments, From Regulatory Changes to Enforcement Priorities” from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. During the session, she will discuss recent cases, rules, and revisions to federal guidance that impact research grants.
Tuesday, October 17
In “When the Music Stops: The Consequences of Funding Termination under Federal Grants and Cooperative Agreements,” from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Mr. Sheffler will analyze possible outcomes from grant terminations and how research institutions can handle complicated and disruptive situations.
From 2:30 – 3:30 p.m., Ms. Pava and Mr. Waters will present “Extensive New Foreign Disclosure Obligations and Security Requirements: How to Comply With Updates to the SBIR and NSPM-33.” From small businesses to large research organizations, the implementation of new requirements for this high-risk area can present difficulties. Ms. Pava and Mr. Waters will detail compliance with the changing reports and discuss the risks of violations.
Mr. Sheffler will return to host “Research Agreements: FAR-Based Contracts vs. Grants and Cooperative Agreements” from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. He will address key distinctions between various agreements that provide research funding and their effects on compliance systems and prime-sub relationships.
Wednesday, October 18
On the final day of the conference, Mr. Waters will lead the presentation “Cannabis Research & the Regulatory Landscape” from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Throughout this session, he will discuss the implications of federal law and navigating the intricate research regulations surrounding cannabis.
